About Wendy
Wendy bij de Ley creates paintings and drawings filled with color and happiness. Whether it's a cat with one sock, or a big painting with birds and teardrops. Her message is simply, there's more to life, keep strong and try to stay happy. She's been painting and drawing since she was a child.

Graduated at the Fontys Academy of Visual Arts in Sittard, Illustrative Design and Art-teaching.

She Thinks in Colors is the Alter Ego of Wendy bij de Ley.

Wendy's paintings have been sold / exhibited in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Italia, England, Canada, Indonesia, Qatar, Spain and elsewhere.

She is now illustrating a couple of books: soon to be published!

Oh, and she's been lucky enough to make more than 12 murals for the capital city of Limburg: Maastricht.

Wendy lives in Amstenrade, Limburg, The Netherlands with her italian husband Francesco and three cats: Tygo, Kofi and Bluey.

WENDY BIJ DE LEY
Deze gepassioneerde kunstenares is als persoon net zo kleurrijk en verrassend als haar schilderijen. Ze werd geboren in 1974 in het Limburgse Brunssum. Na vele omzwervingen woont zij al enkele jaren in Amstenrade waar ook haar atelier Studio STiC is gevestigd. Haar kunstzinnige vorming genoot ze aan de Hogeschool voor Beeldende Kunsten in Sittard, waar ze de opleiding Illustratieve Vormgeving doorliep. Naast schilderijen maakt Bij de Ley ook prints voor op textiel, servies, laptops, phone covers, cd-hoesjes etc. Ze geeft schilder- en tekenles in haar eigen atelier Studio STiC en in Loods18 in Kerkrade. Het illustreren van kinderboeken is een richting ze momenteel verder wil exploreren.

De stijl van Wendy bij de Ley is niet in beton gegoten. Vanwege haar sterk intuïtieve benadering, bepaalt de gemoedstoestand van het moment de vorm die het kunstwerk aanneemt, zonder tussenkomst van het denken. De naam van haar website is tevens haar slogan: She Thinks in Colors en illustreert het centrale belang van kleur in haar werk. Veel terugkomende onderwerpen zijn figuratief zoals ogen, katten, vogels en ook op muziek geïnspireerde abstracte composities. Haar werk is filosofisch van thematiek, waarin chaos en het zoeken naar balans rode draden zijn. Ook de materiaalkeuze is wisselend; meestal gebruikt ze een combinatie van acrylverf en andere media zoals markers, spray, neon verf, inkt en gouache. Als kunstenares zoekt ze graag de verbinding met andere kunstenaars, zoals Arlaque de Clerque en Esther Janssen.
